I started doing it so that my dolls and invisble friends could talk to prove to other kids that they were real.

I was lucky to grow up while they still had variety shows on tv. Shows like sullivan, smothers bros, mike douglas, dinah shore, etc & of course carson gave my generation MANY chances to see vents. My first inspirations in vent were Senor Wences & Jimmie Nelson. I still have my letter to santa from 1968 that i taped a ad for a Danny O'day puppet to & wrote "dear santa, i want this please. Love Billy Smith" . I did get danny, but i couldn't get him to say much! Had no clue how to do it! Took a course at a local community college about ten years later taught by a local vent & proceded from there. I truly love vent! It has given me many happy times. Can' wait to go to vent haven 2008! Went in 88 & 90 & had a BALL! Finally making enough moola to go again. In closing i just want to say what a great & fun site this is!

Watching Paul Winchell on TV and also seeing some Edgar Bergen movies as a kid got me hooked.

When I was in grade school in the 50s, they used to have these traveling shows come to town for all school students and for 10 cents you usually got to see a nature film. But in the fourth grade they had a ventriloquist/magician appear. When he had a conversation with someone on the ceiling and caught three eggs tossed down in a bag, I was hooked. I remember that routine clearly to this day... and use it often (snicker).

I went to FCM conventions for years. My youngest daughter got into vent, and is good at it. After being a magician for over 40 years, I started doing vent, and everyone loved it. Still doing some at 80.

As a child my grandparents had old radio shows on tape and one was Edger Bergen and Charlie McCarthy. I became interested and even ordered a book, but never did anything with it. I really just started again and hope to add it into my clown act.

I always loved Watching anything to do with Vent as a child. It never seemed to be on long enough for me before it was over . I broke my back 4 yrs. ago , and because I was a person who did things 90 miles an hour happy go lucky and all of a sudden couldn't I became depressed. I felt useless because of my new limitations . Then I somehow ended up in the Dummy section on the internet. I stopped thinking of what I couldnt do & said my back is gone but my mind ain't A little medication and a vent figure ( Axtel old story teller ) and I'm as abnormal as ever and a new lease on life

I didnt know how to vote I learned from playing with the little girl in the mirror when my sister would not play dolls with me. The image in the mirror could not move her lips if I was speaking so I have always loved it.

I came over from Holland. I could not believe what I saw in the early fiftys as we were one of the first family to put up an antenna and get black and white TV. Howdy Doody and of course Paul Winchell got me going.

I actually became interested in ventriloquism watching Jimmy Nelson and Paul Wincell on TV. But I was also interested in having a Dummy of my own so I would say it was a mixture of the 2 but number one is Saw a vent on TV because if it wasn't for that, I probabally wouldn't have even know what a dummy was (other than my brothers!).
